Author
Tadeusz Morski 1754-1825

He was educated, among others, at the Knights’ School (Szkoła Rycerska). In 1776, he became the royal chamberlain. However, he did not succeed in getting appointed as a royal agent in France by King Stanisław August Poniatowski. In 1789, Morski anonymously published a booklet Uwagi o chłopach, and in 1790 he published Uwagi nad pismem Seweryna Rzewuskiego… o sukcesji tronu w Polszcze, which presented him as a supporter of far-reaching political and systemic reforms. He also got involved in Ignacy Potocki’s plans related to the Polish-Prussian alliance: he belonged to a secret committee that was to prepare an uprising in Galicia in case a war between Prussia and Austria broke out. He also conducted unsuccessful diplomatic missions among Prussian politicians, including King Frederick William II of Prussia. Thanks to Potocki’s support, Morski became an extraordinary envoy in Spain in 1790, but after only a few months of fairly fruitless work he was dismissed from this function. Morski used the experience gained in diplomacy in his work Myśli o potrzebie i sposobach przysposobienia młodzieży do służby dyplomatycznej w Polsce (1792). During the Kościuszko Uprising, he cooperated with the Supreme National Council. After the fall of the uprising, he settled in Warsaw. In the era of the Duchy of Warsaw, Morski developed insurgent plans for Galicia and Volhynia, especially in connection with Napoleon Bonaparte’s expedition to Moscow in 1812. His attempts, however, were futile and completely collapsed after the defeat of Napoleon’s army. Morski’s efforts to assume high positions in the administration of the Duchy of Warsaw, and then the Congress Poland were equally fruitless when, as Julian Ursyn Niemcewicz claimed, he used a degrading method to convince the Great Prince Konstanty to appoint him. He died on 1 September 1825 in Krakow, where he lived towards the end of his life.
